Radon services and certifications are regulated in the state of Kansas. If you intend to conduct your radon business here it is recommended that you contact the state radon contact to make sure you are complying with the state requirements.
To become certified for the state of Kansas, you will need to complete an NRPP or NRSB approved Entry Level Course, or other course approved by KDHE, as well as complete the associated examination with a passing score. Courses and examinations not approved by NRPP or NRSB must be submitted to KDHE for approval on a case by case basis. You must then submit paperwork to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, Radiation Control Program:https://www.kdhe.ks.gov/1067/Application-for-Certification-or-Renewal
Radon certifications in Kansas are valid for a period of 24 months from initial certification. In order to apply for renewal, a technician must submit certificates showing completion of a certain number of hours of continuing education as outlined below:
Radon measurement technician: 16 hours within the 24-month certification period.
Radon mitigation technician: 24 hours within the 24-month certification period.
Dual radon measurement and mitigation technician: 24 hours within the 24-month certification period.
All continuing education training must be NRSB or NRPP approved or pre-approved by KDHE.
Renewal of certification also requires submission of the required fee(s), application, a radon quality assurance plan for measurement technicians, and submission of certificates showing annual calibration for any device(s) used which require calibrating, such as continuous radon monitors or working level monitors.
